Every year, hundreds of
polar bears gather on the shores of Hudson Bay in
anticipation of the coming winter and their trek onto
the frozen bay in search of food. Come to the wild and
rugged region of Churchill, Manitoba for an up-close
look at these awesome creatures. Have an opportunity to
view other wildlife like the Arctic wolf, snowy owls,
and caribou. Meet the resident Inuit people and learn
about their way of life. Enjoy time in Winnipeg, and a
visit to the Manitoba Museum, which delves into the
history and environment of the province from its
northern Arctic coast to its southern prairie
grasslands.

expert zoologists Diana Weinhardt and Joanne
Simmerson, marvel at the bears from the safety and
comfort of your tundra buggy.
- Examine the local
Inuit culture and art at the Eskimo Museum.
- At the Parks
Canada Interpretive Centre, learn about the effect
of climate change on the region with Ecosystem
Scientist, Wan Lee.
- Meet Richard
Romaniuk, District Supervisor of the Manitoba
Conservation/Polar Bear Alert Program, for a
discussion of the on-going preservation efforts of
the polar bear.
Day
1: Winnipeg, Manitoba
Arrive in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Check in to your hotel.
Day 2: Winnipeg
Today, enjoy a full day sightseeing tour of Winnipeg.
Visit the Fort Whyte Center, which features over 400
acres of lakes, forest, and wetland prairies. Explore
the indoor as well as the outdoor facilities including
the Bison prairie. This afternoon visit the Manitoba
Museum to view the Hudson Bay Company archives and
exceptional artifacts from the fur trade era. This
evening gather for an opening lecture. A festive welcome
dinner will follow. (B, L, D)
Day 3: Winnipeg - Churchill
This morning take a short flight to Churchill. Named for
John Churchill, head of Hudson Bay Company and 1st Duke
of Marlborough, Churchill sits between the boreal forest
to the south and the Arctic tundra to the north. Visit
the Cape Merry National Historic Site and the Polar Bear
Compound. Later, visit the Eskimo Museum where you will
gain insight on the history of the resident Inuit and
learn about their adaptive way of life in the far north.

Day 4: Churchill
In the company of expert field zoologists, climb into
your heated tundra buggy for your first opportunity to
observe the magnificent polar bears. Spend the day
viewing the bears up close. See how their magnificent
coats reflect light and learn about their incredible
sense of smell, allowing them to hunt seals in the
frozen landscape. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Churchill
Enjoy another opportunity to view the polar bears in the
morning. Then, learn about the Manitoba
Conservation/Polar Bear Alert Program, which focuses on
the protection of the bears and helping the resident
Inuit population live in harmony and safety among them.

Day 6: Churchill - Winnipeg
Visit to the Parks Canada Interpretive Centre. Here you
will explore the exhibits of history, culture, and
wildlife of the area. Then gather for an exclusive
lecture on the effects of climate change in the region
This afternoon board your return flight to Winnipeg.
After checking into your hotel enjoy a festive farewell
