Tucked
between rolling hills, rugged mountains, and a
spectacular Atlantic coastline, the back roads of New
England take you on a delightful journey through
Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Your
first stop is the historic sights of Boston where you
will visit such notable landmarks as the Public Gardens,
the Old North Church, Faneuil Hall marketplace, and
Beacon Hill. In Vermont, you’ll visit the picturesque
village of Bennington and see the gravesite of Robert
Frost, and tour a real working farm. Traveling north,
you will visit the exceptional Shelburne Museum, with
its vast collection of fine and decorative arts, before
taking a scenic cruise on the spectacular Lake
Champlain. Learn the art of cider making at a cider mill
and tour the famous Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory in
Burlington, before making a short visit to Stowe for
some shopping. From your base in Lincoln, New Hampshire,
enjoy a full day tour of the majestic natural beauty of
this area. Travel across the scenic Kangamangus Highway
to North Conway where you can shop in the many outlet
stores. Along the rugged Maine coast, you’ll visit
beautiful Boothbay Harbor and enjoy a fabulous New
England lobster dinner. En route back to Boston, you’ll
travel along spectacular Ocean Drive and enjoy the
quaint seaside community of Kennebunkport, where you
will see former President George Bush’s summer retreat.

Day
1: Boston,
Massachusetts - Tour Begins
From country stores to covered bridges, and rugged
coastlines to remarkable mountains, welcome to New
England's back roads. Collette is pleased to offer this
exciting adventure which showcases the best of New
England. Your vacation begins with an overnight stay in
historic Boston.
Day 2: Boston - Stratton, Vermont
A sightseeing tour features the Old South Meeting House,
the Public Gardens, the Old North Church, Beacon Hill,
and the U.S.S. Constitution. Later, stop at the famed
Faneuil Hall marketplace before departing for Vermont,
known as “The Green Mountain State.” En route, you will
pass traditional white steeple churches, quaint villages
and tree covered mountainsides. (B, D)
Day 3: Stratton - Bennington - Stratton
Enjoy the beauty of Vermont. Your first stop is the town
of Bennington, where you will see the gravesite of
Robert Frost as well as the historic Bennington Battle
Monument. Next, enjoy a highlight as you drive along the
famed Molly Stark Trail, where every turn brings a
breathtaking vista.This afternoon, visit one of
Vermont's picturesque working farms that have opened
their doors to visitors from around the world. Enjoy a
revolving farm experience while learning about maple
syrup, hand-spun woolens, garden products, and farm
animals. (B)
Day 4: Stratton - Burlington
Journey north toward Lake Champlain, stopping en route
to visit the exceptional Shelburne Museum. This museum
showcases a complex of 37 historic buildings that are
home to vast collections of fine and decorative art,
paintings and folk sculptures. Continue to Burlington
and board a scenic cruise featuring spectacular views of
Lake Champlain and the surrounding Adirondack Mountains.

Day 5: Burlington - Stowe - Lincoln, New Hampshire
Watch apples transform into cider with a trip to the
Cold Hollow Cider Mill before enjoying a tour of Ben &
Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory. Next, enjoy a short visit to
Stowe where you will have time to shop. You then journey
through the lovely New England countryside to New
Hampshire, your home for the next two nights. (B, D)
Day 6: Lincoln - North Conway - Lincoln
This morning you depart for a full day of sightseeing in
the scenic White Mountains of New Hampshire. Take the
scenic Kangamangus Highway to North Conway, where you
can stroll through the quaint village or visit one of
the many outlet stores located there before returning to
Lincoln. (B, D)
Day 7: Lincoln - Boothbay Harbor, Maine
Depart New Hampshire for Maine, arriving in beautiful
Boothbay Harbor, the “boating capital of New England.”
You will view the rugged coastline while on a scenic
drive along Ocean Point Road. This afternoon you may
stroll through this quaint town or perhaps take a
delightful optional cruise of Boothbay Harbor. Later
tonight, join your fellow travelers for a very special
farewell lobster dinner. (B, D)
Day 8: Boothbay Harbor - Kennebunkport - Boston, MA -
Tour Ends
Today you travel through the seaside community of
Kennebunkport, along spectacular Ocean Drive. See former
President George Bush’s summer home before returning to
Boston. The many pleasant memories of your New England
Back Roads adventure will last a lifetime. (B)

Adam's Farm is a sixth generation
working farm located in the pristine
Mount Snow Valley. Enjoy a
behind-the-scenes revolving farm
experience while learning about maple
syrup production, hand-spun woolens,
garden products and farm animals. Take a
comfortable wagon ride through some of
the farm's 210 acres. Learn about what
it takes for a family farm to survive
first-hand as a local farmer tells you
about their experiences with true Yankee
humor. Afterwards, stay to sample some
of the delicious home-baked desserts.
There is an assortment of wonderful
animals on the farm to visit, pet and
feed. In the barn theatre, they offer
humorous hands-on agricultural
demonstrations that are entertaining for
the young and young at heart. You'll
want to leave time for shopping. The
Farm Store is filled with hundreds of
wonderful Vermont products. |
