two-night stay at the world-famous Grand Hotel on
picturesque Mackinac Island. A horse-drawn carriage ride
past historical sites will introduce you to this
beautiful Victorian-style island. Your overnight stay in
Frankenmuth, an enchanting town with a rich Bavarian
influence and gingerbread-style architecture, includes a
wonderful Bavarian-style meal. Your final stop will be
in Southfield, Michigan, where a full day visit to
Greenfield Village and the Henry Ford Museum showcases
the fascinating workshops of such famous Americans as
the Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison and Harvey Firestone.

1: Chicago, Illinois - Tour Begins
Beautiful Mackinac Island and the Great Lakes region are
the setting for this unforgettable Collette vacation.
This tranquil area boasts incredible scenery and
old-fashioned traditions. Your tour begins in Chicago.
Tonight enjoy a special welcome dinner. (D)
Day 2: Chicago - Green Bay, Wisconsin
Your first full day begins on a high note, with a tour
of "The Windy City." Highlights include the Historic
Water Tower, Pumping Station, famed Michigan Avenue,
Wrigley Building, The Loop and Lake Front. Depart
Chicago for Wisconsin, "America's Dairyland," and the
city of Green Bay. (B)
Day 3: Green Bay - Door County - Green Bay
This morning, pass a picturesque green landscape dotted
with farmlands, red barns and dairy cows en route to
Door County, an incredible region of Wisconsin boasting
over 250 miles of scenic shoreline. Visit the Door
Peninsula Winery for a tasting and learn how they make
their unique fruit wines. A stop at the Door County
Maritime Museum teaches you the rich maritime history of
this region - if you are lucky, you will even catch a
skilled craftsman at work on a traditional wooden boat!
Explore some of the charming coastal villages in Door
County before tonight's dinner, an authentic Fish Boil,
just the way the locals do it! (B, D)
Day 4: Green Bay - Mackinac Island, Michigan
Today you arrive on incredible Mackinac Island. This
picturesque island evokes an old-fashioned feel and is
often called the "Bermuda of the North." No automobiles
are allowed on Mackinac, an island with just over 500
permanent residents, so enjoy a leisurely stroll through
the cottage-filled village dotted with flowers. Your
home for the next two nights is the world-famous Grand
Hotel. (B, D)
Day 5: Mackinac Island
This morning you will board a horse-drawn carriage and
tour a variety of historical sites on this
Victorian-style island. Following your ride, enjoy some
free time to explore the area on your own. This
afternoon, take a "behind the scenes" look at the Grand
Hotel's kitchen. Over 300,000 meals are served in the
Main Dining Room every season. Tour everything from the
bakery to the dish room…see how they do it! Later,
participate in a cooking demonstration led by one of the
Grand Hotel's chefs. Together you will prepare menu
items from hors d'oeuvres to elaborate desserts and
taste the delicious results. (B, D)
Day 6: Mackinac Island - Frankenmuth
This morning depart for Charlevoix, famous for its Earl
Young houses. Explore the cherry capital of the world
and enjoy an informative and entertaining stop at Amon
Orchards, where you can sample unique cherry products
and home-baked goods. Later today, learn about the
history of the radio and phonograph with a visit to the
Music House Museum which is filled with rare working and
antique musical instruments. Next, travel south to the
unique town of Frankenmuth. (B)
Day 7: Frankenmuth
Savor the old-world charm of Frankenmuth, an enchanting
town with a rich Bavarian influence and
gingerbread-style architecture. Visit Bronner's
Christmas Wonderland, the world's largest Christmas
store. Enjoy time at leisure in the afternoon to explore
the town's many European-influenced shops and bakeries.
Tonight, learn how to roll your own pretzels before you
feast on a wonderful Bavarian-style meal, complete with
a German wine tasting. (B, D)
Day 8: Frankenmuth - Southfield
Today you will experience the Ford Rouge Factory Tour
where you will witness a manufacturing miracle. Right
before your eyes tons of iron ore, coal, and sand pour
into one side of the complex and polished automobiles
roll out the other. You can also visit Greenfield
Village or Henry Ford Museum for an experience in living
history: view historic homes and famous American
workshops including those from The Wright Brothers,
Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Robert Frost. (B, D)
Day 9: Southfield - Tour Ends
Your tour ends today, leaving you with many pleasant
memories of your visit to America's heartland.

The Grand Hotel |

Collette vacation includes a 2-night
stay in One of North America's most
impressive hotels-Mackinac Island's
legendary Grand Hotel. Built during
America's Gilded Age, the Grand Hotel is
an elegantly designed, Victorian lodge
made from Michigan white pine. The grand
opening of the Grand Hotel took place on
July 10, 1887 - with room rates starting
at $3.00 a night. Since no automobiles
are allowed on Mackinac Island, all
guests arrive and depart the hotel by
horse-drawn carriage. As you approach
the majestic manor, the first thing
you'll notice is the hotel's seemingly
endless front porch. At 600-feet in
length,, it is the longest porch in the
world. Five U.S President's: Bill
Clinton, George H. W. Bush, Gerald Ford,
John Kennedy and Harry Truman have all
stayed at the Grand Hotel. Hollywood has
also visited; "This Time for Keeps" and
"Somewhere in Time" were both filmed at
the Grand Hotel. |

Few places
in the world evoke the feeling of spring
like Holland does; all year round, its
inhabitants celebrate their Duthc
heritage. Visits are made to the
Veldheer Tulip Gardens to view the
extraordinary flowers in bloom, and the
Dutch Village, which recreates the
old-world charm of the Netherlands.
Klompen dancers perform, shops beckon,
and tunes from the Amsterdam Street
organ invite you to dance.
