Uniquely For You
Jekyll Island |
|
Nestled in the warm Atlantic waters off
the coast of Georgia is a beautiful
stretch of land called Jekyll Island.
Renowned for it's pristine beaches, lush
forests and lush forests and ancient oak
trees, your two-night stay on this
historical isle is sure to leave you in
awe. So serene, so stunning is Jekyll
Island, the local government has passed
a law protecting two-thirds of the land
from any type of commercial development.
In 1886, a group of American
millionaires bought the for one sole
purpose of creating an exclusive
vacation oasis. The "Jekyll Island
Club," as they called themselves, was
considered one of the most exclusive
social clubs in America. Membership was
limited to only 100 members, some of
whom included the Rockefellers, Astors
and Macy's. In the center of the town
they erected a grand clubhouse and
surrounded it with their individual
"cottages." A tour of the Historic
District - deemed a National Historic
Landmark will showcase some of their
humble abodes; see why the term
"cottage" is just a bit misleading. In
1941, the Island was sold to the state
of Georgia, and since then, Jekyll
Island has become a popular resort to
open to the public. Many of the cottages
have been preserved and restored to
their original splendor. relish in the
grandeur of the Gilded Age during your
2-night stay. |
