Uniquely For You                                         Old Sturbridge Village
The sound of a blacksmith hammering an iron horseshoe...the smell of fresh bread, baking over an over fire...the sight of the rotating, water-filled wheel on the side of a grist mill. Welcome to Old Sturbridge Village, a living museum depicting life in a typical New England village between the years of 1790 and 1840. Old Sturbridge Village is the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast. The park encompasses more than 200 acres of tranquil landscape and is home to more than 40 different 19th-century dwellings. Many of the buildings you will see are authentic structures, relocated from various towns throughout New England; others are accurate recreations, constructed to reflect the style of the era. Throughout your visit, you will meet some of the locals - "history interpreters" dressed in period costume, demonstrating a day in the life of a typical villager. Perhaps you will be introduced to the local blacksmith, or a farmer or even a schoolteacher. Through personal encounters, you will learn more about this unique period of American history.
