Day
1: Seattle, Washington - Tour Begins
Your tour begins with an overnight stay in one of America's most
picturesque cities, Seattle.
Day 2: Seattle - Board Cruise Ship
Spend the morning at leisure experiencing this great city known
for its stunning waterfront. "Catch" a salmon at historic Pike
Place Market, ride to the top of the Space Needle, or sample a
cup of java in the coffee capital of the world. Later today,
board Holland America's ,ms Zaandam to begin your 7-night
cruise. While on board, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and nightly
entertainment are included. Tonight, join your host, Steve
Thomas, for an exclusive "welcome aboard" cocktail reception
presented by The History Channel. (D)
Day 3: Cruising - At Sea
Enjoy a special presentation by Steve Thomas. Then take
advantage of the many amenities on your ship or just relax and
enjoy the majestic scenery from one of the many decks. (B, L, D)
Day 4: Cruising - Juneau
Join Steve Thomas for a screening of Save Our History: Alaska's
Aleutian Islands, and discover a little-known conflict crucial
to the outcome of WWII. Then, arrive in Alaska's lively capital,
the beautiful city of Juneau. Take some time to discover this
splendid area. Perhaps you will visit Alaska's oldest Russian
Orthodox church, St. Nicolas, or take a trip to the famed
Mendenhall Glacier. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Cruising - Glacier Bay
Your cruise takes you into beautiful Glacier Bay. Here,
passengers can travel back in time to the Ice Age to see the
faces of glaciers whose retreat over just two centuries has
sculpted a 65-mile long fjord. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Cruising - Sitka
Today's port of call is the seaside town of Sitka, which
possesses a unique heritage including Native American and
Russian culture. Sitka is the land of the Tlingit Indian nation
- keep an eye out for the great collection of carved totem poles
- and was once home to the Russian fur trade empire that began
in 1799. Sitka is also the site of the official transfer of
Alaska to the U.S. from the Russians in 1867 at a cost of $7.2
million. Scoffed at in its day as "Seward's Folly," the
investment in the natural resources-rich territory turned out to
be the best deal since the Louisiana Purchase. (B, L, D)
Day 7: Cruising - Ketchikan
Your port of call today is Ketchikan, known as the "Salmon
Capital of the World" and the "City of Totems." Located on
tranquil Revillagigedo Island, Ketchikan is home to the world's
largest collection of totem poles. With some free time, you may
choose to visit Totem Bight Park or Saxman Indian Village to see
these tremendous timbers being carved. Later this afternoon you
will join Steve Thomas for a discussion of historic home
restoration, ask questions and interact with Steve. (B, L, D)
Day 8: Cruising - Victoria, British Columbia
A wonderful day of sightseeing is in store for you as your ship
sails along the amazing Inside Passage, an extensive stretch of
land known for its natural beauty and abundant wildlife. All too
soon, you are approaching the end of your cruise. Tucked along
the eastern tip of rugged Vancouver Island lies Victoria, the
capital of British Columbia. Your ship pulls into port this
evening offering you the opportunity to explore this charming
city. A crown colony since 1849, charming Victoria proudly
displays her British heritage. (B, L, D)
Day 9: Arrive Seattle, WA - Disembark Cruise - Depart for
Home
